Pregnancy Safe Skincare from Obagi®

Transforming your skin at the cellular level..

Obagi® Pregnancy

Pregnancy and motherhood are life-changing and exciting times for women. However, they also come with a host of health-related concerns. Pregnancy safe skincare is NOT the same as normal skincare, women experience many physiologic changes during pregnancy, including increases in androgen levels. This might lead to development or worsening of acne vulgaris and an increase in hair growth on various parts of the body.

We’ve an entire guide devoted to what Obagi® products are safe to use while pregnant including information on what ingredients to avoid while pregnant.

Skin care ingredients to avoid..

  • Retinol. While pregnant or nursing it’s best to avoid retinol (vitamin A), prescribed forms of retinol or retinol derivates (retinyl retinoate, retinaldehyde or hydroxypinacolone retinoate).
  • Skin brighteners (that contain hydroquinone). It is best to avoid using them during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
  • Benzoyl peroxide is an excellent ingredient to combat blemishes and is considered safe in low concentrations (5% or less) .
  • Prescription topical antibiotics are considered safe for use during pregnancy.
  • Salicylic acid (BHA) consider using glycolic acid or lactic acid (AHA) exfoliants as an alternative as these are perfectly safe to use during pregnancy.
  • Sunscreen actives, as demonstrated in several studies, are not known to be a risk during pregnancy
